COVID-19 Updates: White House Announces Vaccination Distribution Program for LTC Residents
This week the White House announced the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program — a national vaccine distribution program for long term care residents. This initiative partners government with pharmacies to provide and administer COVID-19 vaccines to residents of long-term care facilities (LTCF) nationwide with no out-of-pocket costs.
Currently there are no COVID-19 vaccines that have been authorized or approved by the Food and Drug Administration and recommended by CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. However, the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care Program is being established in anticipation that one or more COVID-19 vaccines will be available before the end of the year.
The purpose of this program is to manufacture and prioritize delivery of the vaccine to healthcare workers and those residing in long term care centers safely and efficiently. We expect to receive more information on the vaccine as well as administration guidelines from state and federal officials in the coming months. As we learn more about COVID-19 vaccines and processes are developed we will continue taking precautions to protect all residents and staff, and are committed to keeping you well informed about the care of your loved ones.
